Free DJ is an art, technology, and culture workshop that teaches participants how to build, program, and operate their own low-cost DJ controller using open source tools. Created by Eliezer Queiroz—DJ, programmer, and educator from the suburbs of Salvador—the project was born from a real-life experience: that of someone who had to invent his own equipment so as not to give up on music.
The workshop integrates practices from maker culture, basic electronics, and DJing techniques, aiming to democratize access to tools and thus empower young artists. At the end, each participant takes home the equipment they built, and with it, the possibility to create, DJ, and strengthen the music scene around them.
